My first steps in trying to make a stungun/Taser

I found broccot store on ebay, and ordered some sheets of that paper.
But i'm not sure its right choice for my needs Sad
Have to wait about a month until it arrives and i can test it.

Do you have an ability to order from Dupont ? I want to order their Mylar tape. Also heard about using it for HV transformers....

If you have troubles in getting (buying) this tape, let me know which one you want, I order this tape then and send it over.

Don't forget, need week I'm away for a week till 7 feb.
I build this devices only for educational purposes!
Using this devices on a real person can have deadly consequences!! This stunguns/tasers are NOT toys!!

OK, i will tell you when i need it.
I should test that nomex first.
I'm currently using 0.1mm teflon tape for layered transformers. Its a special teflon type for electro insulation, and it has about 10kv breakdown (10-15mm arc equivalent) for 0.1mm tape.
If that nomex will be better , i will order more of it.
If its not, i will ask you to order some of Mylar and Kapton to test them also.

Finally made a succesfull T2. Had no luck with making a sectional bobbin, so I wound directly around the ferrite(Primary 1st then secondary on top) and insulated each layer with insulating tape, then sealed ends with epoxy resin. It works really well, I'm impressed with your design and think this is the best device I have ever seen. The discharge looks more like flames than sparks! need a "test subject" to try it on LOL. Will post pics or small video soon.

A working T2 made with insulation tape is a big luck by itself Smile
Did you make tests with light bulb ?

Well.....It worked for a while, now spark is 1 -2 mm Sad , maybe an internal breakdown in transformer? surge arrestor still fires, and capacitors are ok. will have to make a new one and maybe try painting each layer with epoxy

I have found a way to get a pre-made sectional bobbin. I am going to use the bottom part of a champagne stopper from my home wine making box. Its a bit smaller in length than recommended, but will try gluing 3 together. they have 5 sections on each of them.
ALSO... do you think i will be able to use a vacuum cleaner and a glass jar to make a vacuum pump if all the air gaps are sealed?

Yes, its what i'm talking about. Regular insulation tape is not enough to prevent internal breakdowns. My first HV transformer made many years ago was something similar. It has fried instantly, but gave a singe 2cm spark before, and that encouraged me for futher research Grin

I don know what is "champagne stopper" Sad can you post photo ?
I'm sure if you have a really good vacuum cleaner it will do the job.

champagne stopper is the plastic part that you pop out of a champagne bottle,,sort of like a plastic cork, but with sections on it. I will post a picture if needed, but i have already cut them into pieces now ready to be glued!!

I have never seen things like that Shock Here in Russia corks on champagne are made from wood, like that one:

found it on chemelec site:

gluing did not go good Sad, I first tried to glue the pieces together with epoxy, but it wouldnt stick, it melted the plastic Sad, so I held the pieces together on a stick with electrical tape pushing them together, wound the transformer, then sealed in dark green candle wax...It arced from the wound transformer to the windings on the ferrite, through the gap left from gluing!! it worked for about 2 CM, then I widen the gap to 3 CM, and it shorted out internally-ZERO OUTPUT Sad. Then I wind a transformer on only 1 piece of bobbin, seal in wax, and it works very good. the piece only has 4 sections, but I get 1.5CM Hot arc from it, which is very good from 4 sections (Imagine 10 - 14 sections Smile), so I think joining 2 pieces of section together is NOT a good idea as the spark jumps straight through where it was joined, which is a pity because this would have made it much easier to make in the kitchen for people like me who cannot manufacture the bobbin like you do with lathe or cutting toolSad...I hope my experiment may help some people thinking about using multiple pieces of bobbin.....It needs to be 1 complete piece with no gaps between sections...but as they say,,,you learn from your mistakes

You need to take proper glue, and thats it. Just looking at these corks i can say that epoxy will not join them Smile Hot melt glue will.

Can ordinary engine oil be used as transformer oil? I have tried looking on Google but cant find any info on this?

Never mind, I used ordinary sunflower oil which works fine, can easily pull 4CM hot arcs, it will pull 6CM and more, thin arcs but something strange happens to the oil, the oil level goes down at 6CM and seems to pull into the windings? does anyone know why?
